I Love Cinque Terre!
I am absolutely in love with this place, such a small tight knit community and everyone is so nice! The village allows no cars, and there is one phone at the train station. It is completely secluded and quiet, so nice. I went to the surrounding towns today and stopped in Corniglia to catch sunset. I heard this beautiful music coming from a wine bar, italian singer with a raspy voice singing the blues, it was beautiful. I went in and ordered a glass of wine and just enjoyed the music. I went through my italian dictionary so I could ask the owner who the music artist was, and finally went outside to the steps to ask him. I asked in italian Qual e la musica? La musica artista? He started saying things in italian and motioning to the man opposite him. The man said, it is my music. Come inside, I get you a CD and sign for you. In talking with him, he said he lived in Milan and was visiting friends in Corniglia for a couple of nights. He talked with me for a little while and the bar owner took a picture of us, his name is Folco Orselli, beautiful music!! After that I headed back to Vernazza and has dinner, went to a local bar and met a ton of people. Apparently there is a christening today, and it is a celebrated event for the whole town, they throw candy out the windows, and there is a big fiesta. So, I will be back in town at 12:30 for that, and I might actually go swimming, as a bunch of them will be jumping in after the fiesta! I'll be in touch soon.
