Sistine Chapel and The Beach?

Yesterday I woke up early and went straight to the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel. Words can't even describe, it was beautiful... I met Mikel on the spanish steps at 12:30 and we had some lunch. He said we'd been doing so much walking, how about going to the beach and then sightseeing at night? The beach? In Rome? We hopped a train and 30 minutes later we were on the mediterranean (in Ostia). It was nice to relax at the beach and unexpected during my trip to Rome!! After the beach we went to a quaint neighborhood, very beautiful and then on to Ostia Antica which is a beautiful archaelogical sight.

Unfortunately it was closing but we arrived back in Rome for a perfect view of the Colosseum just after sunset. I was able to get some great shots. We met up with Giovanni for some wine and since Mikel was going to see a soccer game, Giovanni offered to take me to see more of Rome. It's nice to listen to him talk about the sites in Rome, he truly appreciates the history behind everything. He showed me the Piazza di Pasquino. In older times, people were beaten or executed for speaking against the government. Because Pasquino had few problems with voicing his opinions, soon any sarcastic remark uttered about the Pope was attributed to him. Now, people post political satire and messages on the statue of Pasquino.

He said Romans have a saying that if you want to hear the truth, you come to Pasquino. We went to an irish pub for a bit and the fountain of trevi, just walked about Rome and he took me back to my hotel on the vespa. Today I am off to the Coloseum to tour the inside and then the Pantheon. I'm not really ready to leave yet, but tomorrow is unfortunately my last day in Rome... This has been by far my favorite city.
