Florence, Uffizi and Accademia...

My first full day in Florence and I went to the Uffizi Gallery (amazing) and since there was a wait for Accademia I just walked around, went down to the river, did a little shopping, ate some lunch and at around 4:00, no line and walked right in. It's very small, but my highlight was seeing Michelangelo's David. Absolutely beautiful. I also loved the unfinished works by Michelangelo, it gave me a new appreciation for his work. I went to dinner at a restaurant close to my hotel and met a very nice couple from England. We talked all night, and of course the subject of President Bush always comes up... It's interesting to hear other points of view though and they gave me some great sightseeing tips for Florence. I called Pavel, the friend I met in Siena and we met up for a couple of hours after dinner. We just walked around and he explained parts of the city. He knows so much about the buildings of Florence and the history there, so again, I feel lucky to have met someone who is willing to show me parts of the city and explain them. Since I had rented a car for Tuscany the next day, I invited him to go if he wanted to see Lucca and San Gimignano and since he is on a break from school, he said he would come and help navigate.
